The Cardinia Dog Group was established to support registered dog owners to get local leash free parks in the Cardinia Shire.

Over 600 signatures in petitions held at local shops were gathered and presented to the Cardinia Shire recommending that they look into establishing Leash Free Parks for the 11,000 dogs registered in the municipality. On August 1, 2007 the Cardinia Shire set aside 12 areas for use. A list of these is set out below. Please note, it is very important to follow the regulations while using these parks. Remember to pick up your dog’s mess, remove any litter and stay away from children’s playgrounds and BBQ areas. You also must come back to you when you call it and be under effective control

The Cardinia Dog Group believes that it is fundamentally important for all dogs, big and small, to have their own space to run around and just be dogs! Leash Free Parks also offer dog owners the opportunity to get together make new friends and share information about their dogs.

We are a not-for-profit local organisation who support dog owners and their dogs in various ways. We offer free sessions and information so that you and your dog can get the most out of your local leash free park.

Why have Leash Free Parks?

Dogs need an area to run around and just be dogs. They need to learn how to meet and greet other dogs, people and other creatures in an acceptable and friendly manner.

Dogs need an area to run free so that they receive enough exercise and mental stimulation. A dog that is kept in a backyard and walked on leash each day is only getting some of its normal requirements. Chasing a ball or a Frisbee and running around with other dogs is an excellent release for any dog.

Just like us, dogs need stimulation. They need new and interesting things to keep their minds interested and happy. And Leash Free Parks offer dogs the opportunity to do just these things.
