What is a Canine Behaviourist?
A canine behaviourist is someone who studies the way a dog behaves. Essentially that means what a dog does. They are a bit like psychologists for your dog. However, instead of getting the dog to lie on a couch to interpret ink blots they read the dog’s body language and from the information the owner provides about the history of the dog they can come to an understanding of why the dog is behaving the way it does.

A canine behaviourist may have an office which you have to travel to or they will visit your home. I believe that the latter is a much better option. If you want to experience the bad behaviour and see it in the environment where it is causing most damage then you need to see the dog behaving badly at its home or the park. When in a strange environment dogs tend to be shy and less likely to act normally.

When you see any sign of trouble or you are not satisfied with your dog’s behaviour that is a good time to contact a behaviourist. You might just want to ask a few questions to clarify the situation. You may not have anything to worry about. However, if you begin to treat the problem early you will find that treatment will be less expensive and easier the behaviour easier to change.

At Messy Pawz Dog Training we can offer a combination of a dog trainer and canine behaviourist. This is a great benefit because as you are taught how to get your dog to do basic obedience you are also building a positive relationship with him or her. Sue has developed a particular method of obedience which is easy to learn and gets fast results in eliminating unwanted behaviour. The results of this combination can be seen within minutes, not hours or weeks.
